Our cherished, Brian Kale Sissel passed away suddenly on June 3, 2024. Brian was born February 28, 1964, in Iowa City, Iowa. He was the son of John and Darlene (Denison) Sissel.
Brian grew up in Anamosa, Iowa, graduating in 1982. He attended Mount Mercy College and continued his education at Drake Law School. After a couple years working in Des Moines, he moved to Cedar Rapids where he started his lengthy career as a public defender. He was the Supervisor of that office for many years until his retirement in January 2022. Brian was a great and accomplished lawyer who was very well respected by his peers.
Brian loved spending time with family and friends who brought him the greatest joy with endless laughter. Brian cared deeply for everyone who had the honor of knowing him. One of Brian’s favorite pastimes was spent on the golf course. Brian was a devoted Vikings and Celtics fan. He also served as a board member of the RISE Program.
Brian leaves many to honor his memory including his wife, Brittney Hagmeier (her children Lauren and Logan), his daughters Isabel (Connor Gradoville) and Lily Sissel, his mother Darlene Sissel, sisters Valrine O’Brine and Belinda (Bill) Wiggins, nephew Trip, nieces Laciee Landon, Loghan, Livian, Lennen), Lindsay, Emily (Ryan), Abigale, close cousins, many, many dear friends, and his cherished furbabies, Theo, Oliver, Archie, and Little.
He was preceded in death by his father John Sissel, brother-in-law Larry O’Brine, and both sets of grandparents.
His Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at the Classic Event Center, located in the Town & Country Shopping Center, 3607 1st Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Following the services guests are invited to gather at the Mulligan’s. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family and a donation will be made in Brian's honor.
