Izumi Sushi & Hibachi plans expansion into North Liberty

NORTH LIBERTY — A small sushi and hibachi chain with a Cedar Rapids location is expanding to North Liberty soon.

A new social media profile for Izumi Sushi & Hibachi popped up in early May — this time for a location in Johnson County. The new North Liberty site, 395 Beaver Kreek Center, opened May 16.

Izumi opened its first Corridor location in downtown Cedar Rapids at 221 Second Ave. SE in December 2021, replacing the long-vacant spot previously home to Wasabi. It stood out in the local sushi scene with its “all you can eat” menu for lunch and dinner with sushi, tempura, teriyaki, curry, hibachi and udon.

The Cedar Rapids opening was the restaurant’s third location and its first venture outside of North Dakota. Today, the small chain has six locations, including one in Clive.
