Norm Sherman, I always enjoy reading your take on things. It is clear you did your political work in a past era when politicians were at least more civil. The reason I mention this is that in many of your columns you have asked Sen. Chuck Grassley to do the right thing.
I want you to know that the Sen. Grassley you may remember from those days no longer exists. The current Sen. Grassley held up a Supreme Court nomination for almost a year because the president then was a Democrat. He later voted for a Supreme Court appointment eight days before the next presidential election because that president was a Republican. All of that was party politics. His party.
For all of his talk about independence, he is always going to do what the Republican Party wants when it needs his vote, regardless of what is right or what the people want. He makes a lot of noise to get attention, then votes the way Mitch McConnell wants. I expect his grandson will do the same when his turn comes. I notice you never ask the same of Sen. Joni Ernst. I expect that’s because we all know what she’s going to do.
