CEDAR RAPIDS — Two planes — a Ford Tri-Motor and a B-25 — will be at The Eastern Iowa Airport to host flight tours in early June through the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA).
Flights on the Ford Tri-Motor — the “Tin Goose” — will run continuously 2-5 p.m. on June 6, and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. from June 7-9. Each flight will be in the air for about 15 minutes. The cost per flight is $99 for adults and $75 for passengers under 17.
The Ford Motor Company manufactured 199 Tri-Motor planes, but less than 10 are “air worthy today” said Drew Stephani, a communications specialist for EAA. Stephani said every seat on the plane is a window seat.
Passengers on the B-25 will be able to freely walk and “crawl around” the plane while it is at a steady altitude for about 20 minutes, Stephani said.
The B-25 flights, offered June 7-9, cost $475 for EAA members and $495 for non-members.
Stephani said the B-25 is most known for its role in the Doolittle Raid, but the plane that will be in Cedar Rapids was used in an administrative and training capacity during World War II.
June will not be the first time these planes have visited Eastern Iowa. The B-25 was at The Eastern Iowa Airport in 2022 and the Ford Tri-Motor was at the Iowa City Municipal Airport in 2018 for the airport’s 100th anniversary.
Interested passengers can register for their flight on the EAA’s website, eaa.org/flight-experiences.
