William "Bill" Albert Hess, 79, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, Aug. 10, 2018. In agreement with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family committal service with military honors will take place at Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion.
Bill was born March 2, 1939, in Parnell, Iowa, the son of Clifford and Dorothy (Rugg) Hess. Bill proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1960. On July 8, 1961, in Davenport, Iowa, Bill was united in marriage to Carol Ann Levetzow. He was employed as an operations coordinator for Iowa Electric Light and Power until retiring in 1996. Bill will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carol Hess of Cedar Rapids; daughters, Megan (Rick) Foster and Andrea Hess, both of Marion; nine grandchildren, Sean (Katie) Irish, Lauren Irish, Nate Irish, Jordan Green, Kyle Weber, Mitchell (Miranda) Hess, Kayla Hess, Drake Hess and Maxwell Stancel-Hess; eight great-grandchildren and one due to arrive in October; two brothers, Terry (Thelia) Hess and Jon Hess; and three sisters, Nancy Hess, Wendy (Jeff) Goldstein and JoEllen (Barry) Sittlow.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Sandy Hess.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bill's memory may be directed to Camp Courageous at P.O. Box 418, Monticello, IA 52310-0418.
