Mary Skala Burrier, 89, died Thursday, May 23, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House. Per her request there will not be a funeral service and a private family graveside service will take place at a later date.
Mary was the daughter of Frank and Grace (Snyder) Brecht, born on July 2, 1934. She married Richard Skala on November 22, 1955 at Immaculate Conception Church in Cedar Rapids. Together they had three children. They were married for 46 years until Richard’s death in 2001. She then was married to Dennis Burrier until the time of her death.
Mary is survived by her husband Dennis, her children Mark (Susan) Skala, Jodie (Jim) Shebetka, and Bonnie Skala. Her grandchildren Megan (Daniel) Sullvan, Pierce Skala, Jamiel (Ashley) Slaman, Jordan (PJ) Slaman and Samuel (Haylee) Dean. Great-grandchildren Lucy Slaman, Layken Slaman, Lawson Slaman, Lilly Slaman, Palmer Hachey and Kinslee Dean.
Memorials may be sent to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy at 35 18th Ave., Hiawatha, IA 52233.
