Bird’s appearance outside Trump trial was pure politics

Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird appeared May 13 outside the New York courthouse where ex-President Trump is on trial for feloniously creating false business records. She introduced herself as Iowa’s Attorney General and began to mindlessly repeat Trumpian bumper sticker political statements. AG Bird continually referred to soon-to-be felon Donald Trump as “President Trump.” She apparently is unable or unwilling to accept the plain fact that the United States only has one President at a time and that Mr. Trump, ex-president by the will of the people, is a former president.
In a relatively short sound byte, AG Bird shouted out a new mantra for her that “Politics has no place in a courtroom.” Apparently oblivious to the irony of what she was doing in New York, she managed to demean the New York state criminal law process while executing a right-wing political hatchet job for Trump on camera. What she was doing sure looked like politics — the radical right wing kind.
If you disagree with how AG Bird uses her position to promote a one-party state for Iowa, please vote Democratic this year. We the People need to promote adding by statute a referendum provision and recall election mandate. It is long past time for We the People of Iowa to promote a healthy, democratic Iowa — free from the hooliganism of AG Bird, Gov. Kim Reynolds, and their ilk. Let’s clean house — state House and state Senate — in November.
