Joan I. Stumpff, age 76 of Amana, passed away Friday, May 17, 2024 at the Oldorf Hospice House, in Hiawatha. A private graveside service will be held. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
Joan is survived by her husband Hank; two daughters, Kristen (Dan) Schabacker and Suzanne (Travis) Stratton; six grandchildren, Allison and Austin Schabacker, Cade, Karsyn, Kaylee and Kennedy Stratton; and a brother Tom Mattes. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Joan Irene Mattes was born on March 4, 1948, in Iowa City. She is the daughter of Joseph and Elsie (Oesterle) Mattes. She graduated from Amana High School in 1966. Joan was united in marriage to Henry “Hank” Stumpff on June 29, 1968. She worked at the family owned and operated Sandstone Winery. In her free time, Joan enjoyed going day-tripping, talking on the phone, shopping, crocheting and cross stitch. She loved spending time with her family, attending her grandkid’s events. Joan also had huge heart for cats.
