DES MOINES — The addition of ambulatory races to the state track and field meet came at a perfect time for Hannah Longmire.
A sophomore from Iowa City West, Longmire swept the three girls’ ambulatory races Saturday at Drake Stadium.
“It felt pretty good out there,” said Longmire, who completed the 100 meters in 15.83 seconds, the 200 in 32.67 and the 400 in 1:17.01. “I’ve raced before, but never in front of as many people as this.
“I’ve done a ton of triathlons. I’m constantly on my bike. But the swimming is my strongest event; it’s the first part of a triathlon and I’m not tired yet. I think the Paralympics triathlon is in my future.”
Longmire was the lone Saturday champion among area 4A girls. The top area finishers in the scoring events were fifth-place finishes by Iowa City West in the shuttle hurdle relay and Linn-Mar in the 400-meter relay.
Pleasant Valley unseated Waukee Northwest as the 4A girls’ team champion, scoring 92 points. Northwest was second with 81, followed by Johnston (62).
Linn-Mar’s ninth-place tally of 26 points led the Metro.
West Des Moines Valley’s Addison Dorenkamp set an all-time Iowa best in the 1,500 meters (4:25.32); Northwest’s 4x100 relay did likewise, in 47.22 seconds.
