On Saturday, May 11, 2024, Mary Jane Batenhorst (Janie) died peacefully at Methodist Hospital after an extended illness. She will be remembered for her quick wit and feisty personality. She will be fondly remembered by many.
Mary was born in Cedar Rapids, NE on June 13, 1942, to Arnold and Germaine (Dieter) Batenhorst. She moved to Omaha after graduation and spent many years working at Mutual Protective Insurance Company. After retirement, she remained in Omaha until her death.
She was preceded in death by her parents and joins them in eternal happiness.
Mary is survived by brother, Daniel (Judith) Batenhorst of Omaha; and sister, Barbara (Herman) Kaup of Osmond, NE. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, NE and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Visitation: Wednesday, May 15, 2024, from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by Vigil Service at 7 p.m., at West Center Chapel, 7805 W. Center Rd.
Mass of Christian Burial: Thursday, May 16, 2024, 10 a.m., at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 6116 Dodge St.
Interment: Calvary Cemetery, 7710 W. Center Rd.
