Donald Edward Richards Jr., 70, of Cedar Rapids, IA, a cherished father, grandfather, and beacon of honesty, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 12, 2024. No services will be held at this time. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids assisted the family.
Don was born December 31, 1953, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Irene (Gibson) and Donald Edward Richards Sr. He graduated from Jefferson High School. Don was united in marriage to Holly Salehoglu on February 14, 1982. He owned and operated Richards Construction until his retirement in 2015. Don was a lifetime NRA member and the Experimental Aircraft Association.
Don was a devoted family man, finding his greatest joy in the love he shared with his wife, son, and granddaughters. He leaves behind a legacy of love, integrity, and a thirst for knowledge that inspired all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Holly Richards of Cedar Rapids; son, Donnie Richards III; siblings, Debbie Braumann, Diane (Ed) O’Brian, all of Cedar Rapids; granddaughters, Mariana and Catalaya Richards of Cedar Rapids; daughter-in-law, Cella Willich; brother-in-law, Hayder (Diane); sister-in-law, Aminet (Ike); and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter in infancy; nephew, Dusty; and brother-in-law, Bob.
Don always lived by the motto, “Rock til you drop.”
