Former GOP leaders encourage defiance of Putin, but support candidate who won’t

Former Gov. Terry Branstad and former Iowa legislators Chuck Larson and Charles Schnieder laud Iowa's all-Republican congressional delegation for upholding the Churchill doctrine in standing up to Vladimir Putin ("What happens abroad matters to Iowans" May 7). It's appropriate their column appeared next to Mike Luckovich's editorial cartoon (showing a Trump-slain, mounted elephant's head saying: "I'll still support him in 2024") since, notwithstanding their fresh-found commitment to Churchillism, you can be sure that all the above mentioned Republicans will be voting for the man who virtually promises to turn the Ukrainians over to Putin.
