William “Bill” John Heck, 81, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Chetek, WI, passed away peacefully Monday, May 6, 2024, at Mercy Medical Center. A visitation will be held on Friday, May 17, 2024, from 4:00-7:00 PM at the Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom. The family asks that casual attire is worn for the visitation.
Bill was born June 27, 1942, to Werner and Gertrude (McCarthy) Heck in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. After he graduated from high school, he went to college briefly and later served in the National Guard. He married Diane Adrian on May 29, 1998, in Cedar Rapids, IA. He owned Iowa Fire Protection for fifty years.
He enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting, and carousing with friends. He especially enjoyed it when family and friends would come to visit him and Diane
in Chetek. To his friends he was known as “Walter” or Mr. Sunshine.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, and his son Scott.
He is survived by his wife Diane Heck; children, Andrew Heck, Amy (Chuck) Bronder, Jason (Dana) Adrian, Mike (Jenna) Adrian, and Katy Adrian; grandchildren, McKenzie, Travis, Hannah, and Harper; brother, Jim (Karen) Heck; his niece, nephew and the many employees whom he considered family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Mercy Medical Center. The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff for the care given to Bill.
