Donald Ray Landers, 77, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018, at Mercy Hospice House.
Don was born June 30, 1941, in Putnam County, W.Va., to John and Lottie (Nollge) Landers.
Don was a retired machinist, having worked at Midland Forge in Cedar Rapids for over 40 years. He was a 45-year member of Local Machinist 831 and a lifelong member of the American Legion. Don was an Army veteran, honored to have served his time for his country.
Don was an avid outdoorsman. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, looking for ginseng, mushrooming and fishing. He also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. Later in life, fishing was by far Don's passion in life.
Don was preceded in death by his wife, Sharla (Drafahl) Landers; parents, John and Lottie Landers; brothers, Samuel, Fred, George, Winston and Herbert; and sisters, Connie, Mary, Emma, Almeda, Sandy and Freda.
Survivors include two daughters, Connie (Mike) Mackenzie of Omer, Mich., and Deborah (Patrick) Swain of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; sisters, Betty Harling of York, Neb., and Barbara Himmelsbach of Amana, Iowa; brother, Charles (Juanita) Landers of Marion, Iowa; five grandchildren, Jason and Jamey Buckallew and Chelsea, Alissa and Dylan Ruiz; one great-grandson; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Per Don's wishes, there will be no service, A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, Aug. 26, 2018, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Red Cedar Lodge, Squaw Creek Park, 1700 Big Bluestem Dr., Marion, Iowa.
Per the daughters' wishes, any donations may be made to your local VA Chapter or to the American Legion in honor of Don.
