MARY "MICKEY" (HAYES) STOOS
Shellsburg
Mary "Mickey" (Hayes) Stoos, 78, of Shellsburg, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2018, at Northbrook Manor Care Center.
She was born Sept. 21, 1939, in Cassville, Mo. She was a homemaker and later worked in retail. She married Phillip Stoos on July 10, 1987. They resided in Marion, Iowa, later moving to Shellsburg, Iowa, and spent winters in Arizona.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Otis and Florence (Lester) Hayes; brother, Don Hayes; and sister-in-law, Barbara Hayes. Phillip's brothers and sisters all have passed, but she was especially closest to Thomas and Esther (Stoos) Wright and Joseph Stoos.
Survivors include her husband, Phillip Stoos; daughter, Debra (Buchanan) Vogel (Randy); son, Randy Buchanan (Mary); Phillip's children, Denise (Goodwiler) Stoos, Jim Stoos (Stacy), Cyndi (Gohlmann) Stoos (Joel); brother, Carrol (Doris) Hayes; sister-in-law, Dorothy Hayes; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mickey loved doing crafts, paintings, gardening and bird watching. This includes shenanigans with her daughter Debby, and they were known as Laurel and Hardy. She also was a great fisherwoman.
She loved dancing and traveling with Phil, especially to her beloved Arizona, where she spent winters gazing at Superstition Mountain in Apache Junction.
A celebration of life is planned at Marion Legion Post 298 on Sept. 18, 2018, from 3 to 7 p.m., with testimonials at 5:30 p.m.
