Salmonella, a bacteria infection, can lead to diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps within a day to three days after exposure. Most healthy people recover after a few days without specific treatment, according to the Mayo Clinic. However, it can cause serious infections in children, elderly people and others who have a weakened immune system.
