Gazette-area Iowans in Major League Baseball and affiliated minor leagues (May 3, 2024)

CEDAR RAPIDS — Here’s your second look at what we call Iowans In The Minors. It’s actually a bi-weekly look at how baseball players in the major leagues and affiliated minor leagues are fairing.

That’s guys from the Gazette area and University of Iowa.

All the following statistics are through Thursday.

Keaton Anthony (Iowa/Philadelphia Phillies) — Outfielder continues to rake for Class A Clearwater of the Florida State League. Hitting .298 in 57 at-bats, with no home runs and nine RBIs. Has 14 walks, as opposed to 12 strikeouts.

Jake Bockenstedt (Cedar Rapids Washington/Chicago White Sox) — In starting rotation for Class A Kannapolis of Carolina League. Has 0-2 record and 4.05 earned run average in three starts. Has struck out 17 in 13 1/3 innings.

Will Christophersen (Iowa/Los Angeles Angels) — Has thrown 13 innings over seven relief appearances for low-Class A Inland Empire of California League. Has allowed 11 hits and 10 walks, striking out 19. A 1-0 record and 4.85 ERA.

Duncan Davitt (Iowa/Tampa Bay Rays) — Five starts thus far for righty pitcher who’s with high-A Bowling Green of South Atlantic League. Has 1-2 record and 4.38 ERA. Peripherals are good: 1.01 WHIP in 24 2/3 innings, with 33 strikeouts.

Jack Dreyer (Iowa/Los Angeles Dodgers) — Lefty reliever has yet to be scored upon in eight appearances spanning 12 2/3 innings for Double-A Tulsa (Texas League). Only five hits and two walks allowed, with 17 strikeouts.

Calvin Harris (Western Dubuque/Chicago White Sox) — Catcher was recently assigned to high-A Winston-Salem of South Atlantic League, where he has played in four games, going 4-for-6 at the plate with a couple of RBIs.

Grant Judkins (Iowa/Oakland Athletics) — Pitcher is 0-2 with a 2.55 ERA for high-A Lansing of the Midwest League. Has five appearances, three of them starts. Only 11 hits allowed in 17 2/3 innings.

Mitch Keller (Cedar Rapids Xavier/Pittsburgh Pirates) — Pirates pitcher is 2-3 with a 5.18 ERA in seven starts so far this season. Has given up 44 hits in 40 innings and has 39 strikeouts.

Austin Krob (Lisbon/San Diego Padres) — Left-hander has pitched in five games, including four starts, for Double-A San Antonio of the Texas League. Is 0-1 with a 6.16 ERA.

Ty Langenberg (Iowa/Minnesota Twins) — Placed on development list for a bit but is back active with Class A Fort Myers (Florida State League). Right-handed pitcher is 0-2 with a 4.70 ERA in three starts.

Adam Mazur (Iowa/San Diego Padres) — Righty starter threw six shutout innings for Double-A San Antonio (Texas League) earlier this week against Arkansas. Is 2-1 with a 2.39 ERA in five starts this season. A 0.95 WHIP and 29 Ks in 26 1/3 innings.

Mason McCoy (Iowa/San Diego Padres) — Infielder hitting .210 in 29 games for the Triple-A El Paso Chihuahuas (Pacific Coast League). Has three homers and 17 RBIs.

Cole McDonald (New Hampton/Iowa/Houston Astros) — Pitcher is on the injured list for Triple-A Sugar Land of the Pacific Coast League. Has pitched in six games (6 2/3 innings) with an 8.10 ERA.

Ian Moller (Dubuque Wahlert/Texas Rangers) — Catcher has played in 15 games for high-A Hickory (South Atlantic League). Hitting .140, though has drawn eight walks and stolen three bases.

A.J. Puk (Cedar Rapids Washington/Miami Marlins) — Lefty pitcher is on the 15-day injured list with a strained shoulder. Transitioned from bullpen to starting role this season, and he is 0-4 with a 9.22 ERA in four starts. More walks (17) than innings pitched (13 2/3).

Colin Rea (Cascade/Northern Iowa/Milwaukee Brewers) — Is 3-0 in six starts for the Brewers, with a 2.67 ERA. Only 30 hits allowed in 33 2/3 innings. Opponents hitting just .227 against the right-handed pitcher.

Tommy Specht (Dubuque Wahlert/Texas Rangers) — Outfielder has played 18 games for the low-A Down East Wood Ducks of the Carolina League. Hitting .230 with nine RBIs.

Connor Van Scoyoc (Cedar Rapids Jefferson/Colorado Rockies) — In the starting pitching rotation for the Double-A Hartford Yard Goats of the Eastern League. Has 1-2 record and 8.10 ERA in four starts. Threw five innings without allowing an earned run in a start earlier this week against Binghamton.

Trenton Wallace (Iowa/Toronto Blue Jays) — Southpaw hasn’t allowed a run in his last two starts (eight innings). Is 1-0 with a 2.16 ERA in four starts this season for Double-A New Hampshire (Eastern League). Has 23 strikeouts in 16 2/3 innings.

Keaton Winn (Pekin High School/Iowa Western Community College/San Francisco Giants) — Has done a nice job in the Giants big league rotation. A 3-3 record and 3.18 ERA in six starts. Has gone six innings in each of his last three starts and given up just one run in each.
