Alonna Marie Schreiner, 65, of Cedar Rapids died April 29, 2024, at UnityPoint-St. Luke’s Hospital following a long courageous battle with COPD and osteoporosis. Friends may visit with the family on Monday, May 6, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home.
Alonna is survived by her husband of 46 years, Tracy; 2 sons, Joshua (Ashley) and Benjamin (Sarah) both of Cedar Rapids; 3 grandchildren, Shiloh, Hollis, and Theodore all of Cedar Rapids; brother, William Kahler; sister-in-law, Mary Savale; several nieces and a nephew; cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Alonna was born on June 6, 1958, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Everett “Buck” and Margret Meeks Kahler. She graduated in 1976 from Jefferson High School. On June 17, 1978, Alonna married Tracy Schreiner at Olivet Presbyterian Church. For 25 years, she was employed at Amana Refrigeration, followed by 15 years at the University of Iowa in housekeeping.
Alonna was a very hard worker who was dedicated to her jobs. She was an animal rights activist and loved all animals, especially cats. Alonna enjoyed spending time outdoors working in the yard, tending to her perennials, and going mushroom hunting. She was excellent in the kitchen, baking wonderful cookies and desserts, and she was a fan of nostalgic TV. Alonna was one of a kind, who loved to have fun, be free-spirited and do things her own way. Above all, she loved her family and will be deeply missed by those who knew her.
