Lloyd “Hooker” W. Henderson Sr., 93, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A celebration of life will be held from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at the Central City American Legion WAPSI Post 421, with a luncheon. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
Lloyd was born on August 10, 1930, in Hopkinton, Iowa, the son of Everett and Theresa L. (Appelby) Henderson. He worked for Century Engineering around 30 years until his retirement. Lloyd loved hunting and fishing with family and friends at their cabin in Guttenberg, Iowa. He loved crossword puzzles, playing cards and the Chicago Cubs. Lloyd will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Lloyd is survived and lovingly remembered by his sons, Lloyd Jr. (Sandy) Henderson of Marion, and Robert (Crystal) Henderson of Covington, Iowa; daughters, Judy (Terry) Bieber of Independence, Iowa, Rebecca (Robert) Coleman of Lisbon, Iowa, Ruby Cayler of Marion, and Vickie Henderson of Cedar Rapids; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and sisters, Darlene (George) Ulferts of Alburnett, Iowa, and Bonnie Luerkens of Hiawatha, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Theresa Henderson; daughter, Linda Slight brothers, John Henderson, Edward Henderson, James “Lee” Henderson, and Laverne Henderson; and sisters, Lillian Tharpe, Joyce Coblentz, and Carol Corum.
Memorials in Lloyd’s name may be directed to the family.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Luke’s Hospice for the great care they took of Lloyd in his final days.
