Nelda Yvonne Hoover, 92, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 24, 2018, at the Ed and Joan Hemphill Hospice Unit in UnityPoint-St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, conducted by Pastor John Albertson. Burial will take place at Dunkard Cemetery, rural Toddville.
Nelda was born April 3, 1926, in Toddville, the daughter of John and Thelma (Brown) Miller. She graduated from Toddville High School in 1944 and on Sept. 22, 1947, she was united in marriage to Charles Hoover. Nelda was a member of the Genealogy Society of Linn County. She loved crafting and quilting, and her favorite activity was reading old Western novels.
She is survived by her husband, Charles; sons, Kenneth (Janet) Hoover of New Hartford, N.Y., Ronald (Julie) Hoover of Alburnett and Harold Hoover and Wayne (Sue) Hoover, all of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Katie (Jeremy) Painter, Rachel (Kevin) Brandt, Eric Hoover (Amanda White), Cindy (Brian) Scott, Donna (Donnie) Thomas and Deb (Don) Williams; 12 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Alice (Marie) Maxfield, Doris Olinger and Helen Andrews.
Nelda was preceded in death by her parents; brothers-in-law, Don Andrews, Chuck Maxfield and Theodore Olinger; and two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Christian.
Memorials in Nelda's memory may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.
