Patty Lou (De Selm) Hiemstra, age 89, passed away at her home in Cedar Rapids, IA on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
A visitation will be held at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel Stateroom on Friday, April 26, 2024, from 5 to 7 PM. A funeral service will be held at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 3 PM with the Certified Celebrant Randy Walton officiating. Interment to follow at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery-Garden of Serenity.
Patty was born on January 14, 1935, in Oskaloosa, IA. She was the daughter of the late Warren and Mildred (Beach) De Selm. On June 14, 1953, Patty married the love of her life, Roland Hiemstra in Oskaloosa, IA. She was the proud wife of a farmer, a loving mother to her four children, and the voice of reason to her 17 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. All while being the soil that allowed for the foundation of the family to be built upon. Patty has been nothing short of a pivotal pilar and matriarch that fostered the amazing family left to carry on her legacy. Patty also enjoyed gardening, was a wonderful cook, and loved her family more than anything.
Those left to cherish Patty’s memory are her children, Renee (Kurt Meyer) and Rocky (Julie) Hiemstra, both of Cedar Rapids, IA; ten grandchildren, Blaine, Dallas, and Leah Hiemstra, Ashley, Blake, and Cole Murdock, Nichole Schappert, Ryan, Brad (Liz), and Tracy Hiemstra: her seven great-grandchildren, Kingston, Skyler, Grace, Wesley, Declan, Ava, and Zion; and a sister, Connie Case, of Marietta, GA. Patty was preceded in death by her husband Roland, son, Craig Hiemstra, daughter, Roxanne Schappert, her parents, and a sister, Deb Mattix.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Dennis and Donna Oldolf Hospice House of Mercy.
