Edwin Taylor Barnes, age 76, of Anamosa, IA, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 19, 2024, at his home after battling a brief illness with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, May 18 at the Wapsipinicon Country Club, Anamosa from 2-5 p.m..
Edwin was born August 23, 1947, in Anamosa, IA, the son of Earl Harvey and Melvie May (Pavin) Barnes. He attended Central City Schools until the passing of his dad when he left school to help with the family farm. On June 3, 1972, Edwin married Nancy Doyle in Anamosa.
He worked at Wilson Foods/Farmstead for 16 years and after their closing he went to driving semi. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was passionate about anything to do with horses. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, farming, dancing and an occasional trip to the casino.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Nancy Barnes of Anamosa; four children, Kimberly (Jim) Scott of Waterloo, Patsy Barnes Rundle of Central City, Jason (Brooke Etten) Barnes of Anamosa and Tammy (Brad) DeShaw of Bellevue; grandchildren, Travis Scott, Josh and Joe Rundle, Cody Barnes, Dalton Lovell, Caleb Bowser, Shay Albrecht, Trey Etten, Ka'Lynn, Kalesia, and KeShawn DeShaw, and 4 great-grandchildren; siblings, Nancy Weers, Glenda (Duane) Grant, Don (Kathleen) Barnes, Kathy (Carl) Clang, Sue (Carl) Offerman, Gary (Kris) Barnes; brother-in-law, Leonard Stutt; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Barb and Ed Plauer, Keith and Sheree Doyle, and Kevin Doyle and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Melvie Barnes; stepfather, Joe Wright; sisters, Betty Dirks and Joyce Stutt and brothers-in-law, Lorance Weers and Gerald Dirks.
The family would like to extend a very special thanks to the staff of Care Initiatives Hospice for all their in-home care that made it possible to keep Ed at home.
