IOWA CITY — Iowa tight end Cael Vanderbush is entering the transfer portal, a source confirmed to The Gazette on Tuesday.
Vanderbush, a former three-star prospect from Plainfield, Ind., did not see any game action in his two seasons in Iowa City. He was in a crowded tight ends room, which has another six scholarship players on the 2024 roster.
Vanderbush’s departure, along with quarterback Deacon Hill’s departure earlier in the day, brings the Hawkeyes’ scholarship count down to 87. Now only two spots over the limit, Iowa has improved flexibility to add via the portal this spring.
The 6-foot-4 tight end also had offers out of high school from Utah, Western Michigan and Air Force, according to 247Sports. He initially committed to Western Michigan before flipping to the Hawkeyes.
