LaVonne “Pee Wee” Bova, 96, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at the Oldorf Hospice House. Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon. Visitation: three hours prior the service. Private family burial will follow after the service with a luncheon at Gwen’s Restaurant.
LaVonne was born March 27, 1928, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, daughter to Sylvester and Esther (Eldstrom) Vandeberg. She graduated from Lisbon High School in 1945 and married John “Chum” Bova on June 18, 1948, at the Lisbon Catholic Church.
The Lisbon community was very important to LaVonne. Throughout her years of dedicated volunteer work, she was honored and awarded from the Governor twice. She also earned many more accolades throughout her life. Those who knew LaVonne knew what she was all about.
She enjoyed coloring, was an avid reader, humorous, and enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, especially basketball and football.
She is survived by her children, Gregg Bova, Thomas Bova, Barbara Bova, and Lynette Bova-Butteris; grandchildren, Jeremiah Butteris, Zachary Butteris, Michelle Jones, Megan Jones, and Derek Bova; great-grandchildren, Branzen Butteris, Bella Butteris, Violet Butteris, and Emily Mundaca; siblings, Irene Vandeberg-Miehe, Jean Vandeberg-Oldorf, and Marjorie Vandeberg-Hayslett; and many loving family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sisters, Irene Miehe, Jean Oldorf, and Marjorie Hayslett.
Memorial may be made to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital.
