Dale H. Coppess, age 95 of Stanwood, passed away at the Hallmark Care Center in Mt. Vernon on Monday, April 8, 2024. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 12 at 10:30 a.m. at the Stanwood Union Church with Pastor Theodora Okine officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, April 11 from 5-7 p.m. at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence. Burial will be in the Stanwood Cemetery with military rites.
Dale was born March 19, 1929 in Cedar County to Howard and Violet (Fairley) Coppess. He married Darlene Schnipkoweit on March 26, 1950 in Tipton, Iowa. She passed away on July 17, 2022.
Dale is survived by his brother Darrell (Joan) of Stanwood; sisters Doris (Dick) McAtee of Wyoming, Darlene Flockhart of Tipton, and Deanna Schnipkoweit of Anamosa; sister-in-laws Delores (Boyd) Hubb and Barb Schnipkoweit; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers Delbert, Donald and his wife Lulu Grace; sister Donna Lou Rhoads and her husband Russ; and brother in-law Robert Flockhart.
Dale served his country honorably in the Army in the Korean War. He was a lifelong farmer who was on many various boards, serving as president or chairman. Dale also liked to fish, hunt, collect guns, and work with wood from start to finish.
