Michael Joseph Rockafellow, 70, of Iowa City passed away at home on April 4, 2024.
A memorial gathering will take place from 3-5 PM Wednesday, April 10, at The Kirkwood Room in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Eagles FOE 695.
Michael was born to Irving Delos and Rose Marie (Boyle) Rockafellow on March 19, 1954, in Mason City, IA, one of 13 children born to the couple. After graduating from City High School in 1973 Michael served as a purchasing manager for Mercy Hospital for 40 years, retiring in 2013.
Michael greatly enjoyed the outdoors. He was a hunter, a fisherman, and a sometimes golfer. Michael was good at cooking and invested a lot of time in his grandkids. He was a long-time member and contributor to The Fraternal Order of Eagles; Michael was a Trustee of the local Eagles FOE 695. Michael will be best remembered for his love of family and friends and willingness to help others
Michael is survived his children Michael Todd (Patricia Flynn) Rockafellow and Micahla Ruan; siblings Pat (Novelette) Rockafellow, Tom Rockafellow, Mona (Chuck) Eckermann, Paulette (Terry) Jones, Kathleen (Dave) Link, and Mary Rockafellow; sister-in-law, Amie Rockafellow and Kim Rockafellow; brother-in-law, Joe Zoll; and grandchildren Trevor James, Jasmine Rose, Emma Grace, Evan Paul, Colin Michael, Tara Anderson, and Lily Shrock.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jack, Bill, Tim and Todd; and sisters, Suzette Zoll and Lynn Marie Apel.
