Dessie M. Allans, 91, formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died March 11, 2024, in Boise, Idaho. Graveside Service: 10 a.m. Thursday, March 28, 2024, Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, assisted the family.
Dessie was born on March 27, 1932, in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of George and Mary (Kalogeras) Mavromatis. She attended Shenandoah grade school, graduated from Roosevelt High School. Dessie was united in marriage to James N. Allans for over 50 years. The couple married in St. Louis, Missouri. She worked at AC Neilsen and Kashian Bros. Inc. Dessie moved to Boise, Idaho to be near her daughter, Francine.
Dessie and Jim were founding members of St. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church. She loved to cook and entertain. Dessie was loved dearly by her daughters, Dorothea, and Francine; son-in-law, Douglas; grandson, James; and her and Dorothea’s friend, Edward J. Markert.
Dessie is survived by her daughters, Dorothea Allans of Cedar Rapids and Francine (Douglas) Allans-Roloff of Boise, Idaho; grandchildren, James P. Roloff; and brother, Pete (Kathy) Mavromatis.
Dessie was preceded in death by her parents, George, and Mary Mavromatis; husband, James Allans; sister, Mosca Kachikis; brother, Jordan Mavromatis; sister-in-law, Barbara Mavromatis; and brother-in-law, Frank Kachikis.
Memorials may be directed to St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church in Cedar Rapids.
