Janice Carol Mitchell (Sewall), 76, of Cedar Rapids passed away peacefully surrounded by family and loved ones on March 11, 2024 after a short battle with cancer from a brain tumor.
She is survived by her three daughters, Sheri Parker of Cedar Rapids, Stacy Giesen (Danny) of Indiana, and Dusti Zuby (Jay) of Oklahoma; her two sons, Ronnie Parker (Leslie) of Marion, and Derek Parker (Shalin) of Arkansas; and many
grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by both her mother (Carol) and father (Stanley) Sewall; one brother, Marlon Sewall; and a sister, Mary Ann Payne. Jan was born in Livermore Falls, Maine, on Nov. 13, 1947, as the middle child of 3.
She traveled the entire country most of her life, bringing different cultures and experiences to her children and family. She would say "I am a Gypsy." When she couldn’t travel, she would rearrange her home for a new feel. She loved camping, gardening, and creating amazing sculptures from wood. Most of all she loved her family. Often she could be found grabbing photos from Facebook and creating small video clips. Jan believed everyone deserved a second chance. She was also a Christian and believed in Jesus. She loved her Church and Her family in Christ. She will be deeply missed. We all love her and look forward to seeing her again.
Funeral/Celebration of Life Services will be held on April 13 at 11 a.m. at Gospel Light Baptist Church in Marion.
