HELEN JEANNETTE (JEAN) RANKIN
Traverse City, Mich.
Helen Jeannette (Jean) Rankin, 90, of Traverse City, Mich., formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Tuesday, June 26, 2018.
Jean was born March 18, 1928, in Saranac Lake, N.Y. After graduating as valedictorian of her high school class, she earned a B.A. in mathematics from Cornell University in 1949.
Jean taught math, algebra and geometry at Franklin Junior High (now Franklin
Middle School) in Cedar Rapids for 23 years. She retired in 1986. She also was active in the Methodist Church. She was an avid bridge player and loved games and puzzles of all kinds. In retirement, she also took up genealogy.
Helen is survived by her husband, William C. (Bill) Rankin; two sons, Robert W. Rankin and William J. Rankin; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister.
A private memorial service will be held in Traverse City, Mich., at the convenience of the family. Internment will be in Morningside Cemetery, Malone, N.Y., at a later date.
