Doris N. West, 87, of Onslow passed away on Monday, March 18, 2024 at the Anamosa Care Center.
A funeral will be held at 11 am on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at the Wyoming United Methodist Church. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 pm on Friday, March 22 at Dawson Funeral Services in Wyoming. Burial will be at the South Mineral Cemetery.
Doris Nellie was born on July 13, 1936 in Clinton, Iowa to Elmer and Dorothy (Graybill) Jess. She graduated from Miles High School. On February 9, 1957 she was united in marriage to the love of her life Darrell West at the Methodist Church in Miles. She worked as a nurse’s aid for many years in the nursing home and hospital, before becoming a homemaker where she took pride in raising her children. She is a member of the Wyoming Methodist Church. Darrell and Doris enjoyed going to dances and travelling. Doris was an avid collector of stamps, tea pots, bells and poems. She always loved fresh flowers and tending to her beautiful yard.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of over 67 years, Darrell; two daughters, Cheryl (Craig) Haker of Anamosa, Lori West of Monmouth; three grandchildren, Race, Kase (Maria) and Chase; two great-grandchildren, Josephine and Milo Haker; sister-in-law Elgene West; and a close nephew, Randy West.
She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother Dwaine.
Doris’ family would like to extend a special thank-you to the Anamosa Care Center for the care they gave Doris.
