James M. “Jimmy” O’Brien, 62, of Oelwein, Iowa, died Tuesday morning, March 19, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society in Ottumwa, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Friday, March 22, 2024, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein with Rev. Ray Atwood officiating.
Visitation: 4:00 to 6:30 P.M. Thursday, March 21, 2024, and for one hour before the service on Friday at the funeral home.
Parish Scripture Service: 6:30 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
Interment: Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in Jimmy’s name to Curtis House Alternative Living, River Hills School or Good Samaritan Society.

James Michael O’Brien was born January 2, 1962, at Oelwein, the son of Robert and Kathleen (Mullaley) O’Brien. He attended school at River Hills in Cedar Falls and graduated from Antes Development Center in West Union in 1982. Jimmy worked at Goodwill in Stanley and Oelwein. He lived at the Alternative Living Corporation Curtis House in Oelwein from 1992 until January of 2024, at which time he moved to the Good Samaritan Society in Ottumwa, Iowa until his passing.
James is survived by his siblings: Patty (Craig) Beyer of Holstein, Mary (David) Orman of Ottumwa, John O’Brien of Dixon, California and Tim (Deb) O’Brien of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Robert and Kathleen O’Brien; and sister-in-law: Martha O’Brien.
