Mayo Icie Feight, 94, of Shellsburg, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018, at her home in Shellsburg surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2018, at
11 a.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. A visitation will be on Tuesday, Oct. 23, one hour before the service.
Mayo Icie Kelley was born on Dec. 23, 1923, in Quanah, Texas, the daughter of Thomas and Jesse (High) Kelley. She enlisted in the Army (WAC) during World War II as a medical technician, replacing her younger brother, who lost his life on the destroyer USS Spence.
She was a resident of Rock Ridge Residential Care in Shellsburg, Iowa, attending Parkers Grove Baptist Church in Shellsburg when health permitted. She loved reading her Bible, Christian books, needlepoint and shopping for bargains. She also loved family, animals and feeding the birds. Mayo was a woman of faith, believing in Jesus Christ's love, forgiveness and Heaven, which would be her home after her passing. Her favorite Bible verse: "I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me." (Philippians 4:13)
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Alex George of 30 years in 1976; second husband, Adelbert Feight of 24 years in 2004; brother, T.R.; sister, LaNoye; and parents.
Survivors include a son, Alex (Carolyn) Cedar Rapids; daughters, Constance (Bill), Toddville, Patricia (Doug), Monroe, Mich., and Ann (Duane), Toddville; siblings, Kenny, Dwayne, LaDonna, Joan, Peggy, Karen and Becky; 12 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.
