What to know: This is a first-round NIT game. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for youths.
Iowa is the No. 3 seed in the 8-team Villanova Bracket. Kansas State is unseeded. The winner will meet either Utah or UC Irvine this weekend, with day and time to be established after their games.
It’s Iowa’s first NIT appearance since 2017 and ninth overall. The Hawkeyes are 10-8 in postseason NIT games. Iowa reached the championship game in 2013. This is K-State’s first NIT since 2009.
This could be the final home games for Iowa’s Ben Krikke, Patrick McCaffery and Tony Perkins. If Iowa beats K-State, it would face the winner of Tuesday’s UC Irvine-Utah game. Utah is the No. 2 seed in the Villanova Region, Iowa is No. 3.
Both teams were in the NCAA tourney last year. K-State went 26-10 and reached the Elite Eight in Jerome Tang’s first season as its coach. Tang was an assistant coach at Baylor from 2003 to 2022.
Three Wildcats average between 14.6 and 15.5 points. The trio, guards Tylor Perry and Cam Carter and forward Arthur Kaluma, have made a combined 199 3-pointers. Perry, the team’s leading scorer, has 91.
Perry is from Fort Coffee, Okla., population 334. He played for NIT-champion North Texas last year. He had 20 points in his team’s title-game win over UAB.
Iowa is coming off a 90-78 second-round loss to Ohio State last Thursday at the Big Ten tournament. Hawkeye junior forward Payton Sandfort is averaging 22.8 points over his last four games.
K-State is 348th in fewest turnovers per game, with 14.9. Iowa is 15th with 9.5.
Kansas State doesn’t have a Kansan on its roster.
