Rena Rae Marconi, 73, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Thursday, March 14, 2024. A funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids, with a visitation one hour prior. The family encourages guests to wear Hawkeye colors. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Rena was born August 4, 1950, in Cedar Rapids,
the daughter of Claire “Connie” (Hardin) and William “Hap” Wims. She graduated from Prairie High School and went on to attend the University of Iowa. Rena was united in marriage to Roger Marconi; the couple later divorced. She worked for Hy-Vee until her retirement in 2023. Rena was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan. She was deeply engaged in the arts, participating as both an actress and stagehand with Kirkwood Performing Arts. Rena’s commitment extended to serving on the board of directors for the Amana Performing Arts Center.
Survivors include her sons, Chris Marconi of Norway, Iowa, and Brian Marconi of Cedar Rapids; siblings, LuAnne (Mike) Callison of Des Moines, Iowa, Vicky (Dennis) Slager of Marion, Iowa, and William H. (Victoria) Wims Jr. of Anamosa, Iowa; and lifelong friend, Vicki Walshire of Rowley, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Connie and Hap Wims; and former husband, Roger Marconi.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Critter Crusaders of Cedar Rapids or the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
