Guns carried by teachers creates a nightmare

It is a grotesque irony that gun manufacturers and gun dealers stand to profit from the Iowa Legislature’s misguided attempt to keep Iowa’s schoolchildren safe from gun violence. They plan to arm teachers and other school personnel. Instead of working for their constituents, they are beholden to corporations profiting from gun sales and their NRA donors. In the process, they expand the market for guns. They also portray guns as the solution to the problem.
It is chilling to imagine a scenario where an active shooter enters a classroom, and the classroom teacher is expected to engage that shooter in a gunfight. Who will protect the students as they try to avoid being caught in the crossfire? What a nightmare!
Putting guns into Iowa’s schools is the height of irresponsibility.
