Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 18, 2024, at Holy Redeemer Church, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Leona was born July 6, 1933, in Prairieburg, Iowa, the daughter of George and Eunice (Spinler) Wilcox. She was united in marriage to Lawrence Nigh on February 20, 1987, in Cedar Rapids. She was a member of the VFW Post 788 and Holy Redeemer Church. Leona worked for Lefebure and Rockwell Collins. Leona enjoyed gardening and canning in her younger years. She loved to dance and cook, especially big dinners on Sunday for the whole family. Many memories were made at her annual 4th of July party as well as any gatherings with family and friends. She lived life to the fullest and always had a great time. Our motto: “One day at a time”. She enjoyed annual girl trips to the apple orchard. Her last big thrill in this world was ziplining at the age of 90. Leona was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.
Survivors include her daughters, Christine (Allen) McMillan of Roman Forest, Texas, and Donetta (Rob) Heathman of Cedar Rapids; fur babies, Charlie, and Lucy; sister, Georgia Conway of Michigan; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and special friends - our chosen family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; children, Colleen Hersh, John Black, and David Kruger; husbands, Leonard Black, Donald Kruger, and Lawrence Nigh; sister, Gladys Boddicker; and grandson, Christopher Kimball.
