A new Major League Baseball spring training event debuts this week. St. Louis Cardinals and Miami Marlins fans can watch their top prospects compete in a Spring Breakout game Friday right here at TheGazette.com. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. (CT).

What is MLB Spring Breakout?

Teams picked players with rookie eligibility for an event “showcasing baseball’s future,” according to MLB. Here’s the full breakdown from MLB.com, which says rosters were “constructed using MLB Pipeline’s Top 30 Prospects list as its foundation.”

There are some rules differences as well. Each game will be seven innings and will feature automated balls and strikes. Here’s more from MLB.com.
