What to know: It’s a rematch of a second-round contest from last year in Chicago when the 13th-seeded Buckeyes upset 5th-seed Iowa, 73-69.

The two teams met once in this regular season. Iowa won 79-77 on Feb. 2 in Iowa City.

"The idea that we had the ball with a chance to win it in their gym, that is something that we'll absolutely reflect on,“ Ohio State interim head coach Jake Diebler said. ”An element of this game is that it's a payback game."

Senior guard Bruce Thornton leads the Buckeyes in scoring with 16.1 points per game. Forward Jamison Battle and guard Roddy Gayle average 14.4 and 13.8 points, respectively. Center Felix Okpara averages 2.3 blocked shots.

Ohio State is on a four-game winning streak, capped by a 73-51 victory at Rutgers Sunday. The Buckeyes led by just 30-28 at halftime, but they never trailed in the game. They held Rutgers to 27.3 percent shooting.

Iowa is coming off a 73-61 home loss to Illinois Sunday. The winner of this game will play the Illini Friday at 5:30 p.m.

Hawkeye forward Payton Sandfort has scored at least 23 points in each of his last three games.

Iowa teams are 6-0 at Target Center over the last 53 weeks. That’s where the women’s team won the 2023 and 2024 Big Ten tourneys.

Iowa is 22-22 in Big Ten men’s tourney play with three championships. Ohio State is 33-18 with four titles. Only three teams have won four games in a tourney to claim the title, and two were Hawkeye squads (2001, 2022).

No. 7-seeds have never won this tourney since it began in 1998. They did, however, win twice in three of the last five tourneys.
