Iowa’s Owen Freeman is Big Ten men’s basketball Freshman of the Year
Freeman was the conference’s Freshman of the Week nine times. Also, Hawkeye guard Tony Perkins (2nd-team) and forward Payton Sandfort (3rd-team) are got All-Big Ten recognition.

Iowa’s Owen Freeman was named the Big Ten men’s basketball Freshman of the Year by the conference’s media Tuesday.
Freeman and Indiana forward Mackenzie Mgbako were co-Freshmen of the Year in the coaches’ voting.
Freeman, a 6-foot-10 center from Moline, Ill., is averaging 10.6 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.8 blocked shots. He had five blocks in the Hawkeyes’ 73-61 loss to Illinois Sunday. He was the league’s Freshman of the Week nine times.
Iowa senior guard Tony Perkins was voted to the second-team by the conference’s coaches. He averages 14.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists
Hawkeye junior forward Payton Sandfort was a third-team pick of the coaches and media. He averages 16.2 points and 6.5 rebounds.
The first-team All-Big Ten honorees of both the coaches and media were repeat league Player of the Year Zach Edey of Purdue, Boo Buie of Northwestern, Terrence Shannon Jr. of Illinois and Braden Smith of Purdue. Jahmir Young of Maryland was on the media first-team, Illinois’ Marcus Domask was on the coaches’.
Nebraska’s Fred Hoiberg and Purdue’s Matt Painter are the conference’s Co-Coaches of the Year. Hoiberg shared that honor in the Big 12 in 2012 when he coached Iowa State.
