David Louis Caplan, 67, died Monday, March 4, 2024 at UIHC following a lengthy illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Agudas Achim, 401 E. Oakdale Blvd, Coralville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Agudas Achim, the Free Lunch Program at CommUnity Crisis Services, or Planned Parenthood.
David was born March 11, 1956 in Honolulu, the son of Richard and Ellen (Sideman) Caplan. He was a 1974 graduate of West High School where he played varsity football and was on the track and swimming teams. David received his undergraduate degree and master’s degree in limnology and oceanography from the University of Wisconsin.
David married Joni Moyer on November 24, 1984 in Iowa City.
David was a lifelong entrepreneur. He owned and operated English River Antiques in Kalona. He enjoyed time spent volunteering at the Free Lunch Program and the Senior Center. David was a collector of many things, including comic books, a sports enthusiast, and an educator. He was always learning.
David is survived by his wife, Joni and their children, Benjamin Caplan and Shoshannah (Joseph) Eggers, both of Iowa City; an expectant grandchild; his mother, Ellen of Iowa City; three brothers, Joel (Nancy) Caplan, Dan (Terri) Caplan, and Aaron Caplan (Leah Lee); his mother-in-law, Lillian Moyer; and brothers-in-law, Donald and Dan Moyer.
He was preceded in death by his father; father-in-law, David Moyer; brother and sister-in-law, John and Janet Moyer and Tonda Moyer.
