Solon’s Callie Levin is named Miss Iowa Basketball 2024 by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association
She heads a list of 13 area first-team all-state selections

DES MOINES — Girls’ state basketball week wasn’t without its perils for Callie Levin and the Solon Spartans.
“We were up until 2:30 (Saturday) morning in the hotel. We were up cheering. We ordered pizzas,” Levin said.
“And we got stuck in the elevator.”
That’s a pretty minor setback in what was otherwise a glorious week.
A 5-foot-9 guard and a University of Iowa recruit, Levin engineered Solon’s run to the Class 3A championship, its first title in 26 years.
About 12 hours later, also at Wells Fargo Arena, she was selected as Miss Iowa Basketball 2024 during all-state voting conducted by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association.
Only seniors are eligible for the award.
“I’m a little surprised, because there are a lot of good players out there,” Levin said. “I’m really grateful. It’s been an amazing ride.”
Levin averaged 22.0 points, 6.9 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 4.8 steals per game in her senior season as the Spartans went 24-3.
She closes her career with 1,984 points, 535 rebounds, 412 assists and 417 steals. She was the key figure in Solon’s revival in girls’ basketball; the Spartans were 79-20 since her freshman year.
“It’s been a lot of fun,” Solon Coach Jamie Smith said. “She’s a great kid, a competitor. Sometimes when you’re a competitor, people have an eye out for you.
“She got better every year, and one reason we grew as a team was because we got more scorers around her.”
Levin will be part of a much-accomplished freshman class of five next season at Iowa, and “I’m hoping I continue to grow” as a player, she said.
“I’m trying to work on my mid-range jumper, getting more consistent and stronger. In the Big Ten, you can’t go off of one foot. You’ve got to go up strong.”
Three area teams — Clear Creek Amana (Class 4A), Solon (3A) and North Linn (1A) — earned state championships last week. Each of those teams have a pair of first-team all-state selections.
Led by Ava Locklear and Averie Lower, Clear Creek Amana completed a 26-0 season, capped by a 43-25 victory over Waverly-Shell Rock in the 4A title game.
North Linn (26-1) won each of its three state-tournament games by double-digit margins behind Kamryn Kurt and Macy Boge. The Lynx won their final 25 games after dropping a one-point decision to CCA at Rivalry Saturday in November.
Hailey Miller joins Levin on the 3A first team.
Other first-team picks are Libby Fandel of Cedar Rapids Xavier and Karrington Asp of Western Dubuque in 4A, Chloe Meester of Mount Vernon, Emma Townsley of Benton Community and Jayden Kuper of Monticello is 3A, Morgan Miller of Iowa City Regina in 2A and Rowan Jacobi of Springville in 1A.
