Iowa’s Payton Sandfort named Big Ten men’s basketball Player of the Week
It’s a first for the Hawkeye junior, who followed a 26-point triple-double at Northwestern Wednesday with 23 points at Northwestern Saturday

Iowa junior forward Payton Sandfort was named the Big Ten men’s basketball Player of the Week Monday.
It was the first such career honor for Sandfort. He averaged 24.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 8.0 assists and 1.5 blocked shots in the Hawkeyes’ wiins over Penn State and Northwestern. He made 23 of 24 free throws, and has made his last 21.
Last Wednesday, Sandfort had the first triple-double in Hawkeye men’s history.
Sandfort opened the week by recording the first triple-double in Iowa history (and the first in the Big Ten this season). He finished with 26 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists and three blocks, tying a career-best in points and posting career-highs in assists and blocks.
He leads the Big Ten in 3-point field goals (78) and free throw percentage (.918) and is second in 3-point field goal percentage (.370).
Iowa (18-10, 10-9) closes its regular season at home against No. 12 Illinois Sunday at 6 p.m. (FS1).
