CEDAR RAPIDS — Construction of an eight-foot-wide trail along Edgewood Road in northwest and northeast Cedar Rapids will reduce the number of traffic lanes on a section of the street beginning next week.
The work is located on Edgewood Road and the bridge, between Ellis Road NW and Glass Road NE, according to a news release from the city. It will include bridge modifications to accommodate an eight-foot-wide trail with a trail extending north of the bridge approximately 400 feet.
The work also will include miscellaneous bridge repairs, water main replacement and relining. The water main has been out of service since 2017.
The Cedar Rapids City Council in November awarded a contract for the project to Cramer and Associates for $3.7 million. The city also received Iowa Department of Transportation approval for federal funding through a $660,000 Surface Transportation Block Grant.
Work on the project will begin Monday, March 4 and last into mid-September. Lane reductions to the northbound and southbound traffic are planned during all stages of the project.
Two-way traffic will be maintained throughout the duration of construction.
