Don’t allow felons to run for office

While reading the Friday paper I saw an article about House Study Bill 697. In the article it stated that "the bill would allow candidates for Congress and the presidency to appear on Iowa's ballot even if they have been convicted of a felony." A felony is the most serious offense in our criminal justice system. Wouldn’t it make more sense to restrict from the ballot anyone convicted of a felony? Don’t we want law abiding citizens representing us? If you think this is wrong I urge you to contact your local representative at https://www.legis.iowa.gov/legislators.
