Kathryn M. “Kathy” Crawford, 69, of Quasqueton, IA, passed away in a fire at her home on Sunday, February 18, 2024.
Kathy was born on January 31, 1955, in Independence, IA, the daughter of Norman G. and Iva I. (Kress) Olson. She attended Rowley Elementary School and was a graduate of Independence High School in 1973. On May 29, 1976, Kathy married Bradley Alan Crawford at the Methodist Church in Rowley, IA. They made their home together in Quasqueton, IA, and raised their two children. Kathy worked for several years at Geater Manufacturing in Independence, IA, and several other jobs before taking a position at East Buchanan Schools as the Food Service Manager. She worked for the school for over twenty years making sure everything in the kitchen ran smoothly and the students were well fed. Kathy was an accomplished baker. Her cookies, cakes, pies, and candies — which she shared generously, especially at Christmas — tasted as good as they looked.
Kathy loved sports, and she could talk about the weather for hours. Laura lovingly called her “Meteorologist Mom.” Kathy and Brad spent many summers playing on softball teams in their younger years. She loved watching sports and was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan, who never spoke ill of their rivals in Ames. She also liked the Minnesota Vikings and Boston Red Sox. When her children were old enough to play sports themselves, she took her fandom up a notch and was there every game to cheer on her family. Rooting on her children, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews became one of her favorite activities.
She is survived by her children, Bryan (Lauren) Crawford, Jesup, IA, and Laura (Ronnie Kascel) Crawford, Shepardsville, IN; six grandchildren, Graham and Sloane Crawford, Ashlie, Dayson, Maddux, and Kohen Kascel; four brothers, Bob (Karen) Olson, Bella Vista, AR, Harold (Carolyn) Olson, Concord, NH, Russ (Jane) Olson, Rowley, IA, and Paul (Julia) Olson, Savannah, GA, two sisters, Nita (Dennis) VanLaningham, Independence, IA, and Chris Murphy, Independence, IA, and many nieces and nephews.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Iva Olson, and her husband Brad Crawford in 2013.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at the Reiff Family Center – Funeral Home & Crematory. Inurnment will be held at the Quasqueton Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 PM until 7 PM on Wednesday.
