Iowa high school boys’ state basketball 2024: Class 3A qualifiers, bracket, schedule

The Class 3A Iowa high school boys’ state basketball tournament field is set following Monday night’s substate finals. Here’s a look at Monday’s scores, plus the state bracket and schedule released by the Iowa High School Athletic Association.
Monday’s Class 3A Iowa high school boys’ basketball substate finals
No. 7 MOC-Floyd Valley 67, Sioux City Heelan 57
MOC-Floyd Valley (21-3) is state bound for the first time since 2016 after racing to a 41-24 halftime lead in a win over Sioux City Heelan (14-10).
Ballard 62, No. 4 Clear Lake 51
Ballard (16-8) led 26-19 at halftime and handed Clear Lake (22-2) just its second loss of the season after the Lions started 20-0. The Bombers head to state for the first time since a runner-up finish in 2021 and 12th overall.
No. 1 Decorah 69, Charles City 40
Top-ranked Decorah (22-2) beat Northeast Iowa Conference foe Charles City (15-9) for the third time this season to earn its fourth state tournament bid and second in the last three years. The Vikings outscored the Comets 21-10 in the third quarter after trailing 24-23 at the break.
No. 9 Davenport Assumption 63, No. 6 Marion 32
Assumption (16-8) built a 28-18 halftime lead at Alliant Energy PowerHouse, made it 46-24 by the end of three and clinched its third state tournament berth in the last four years and 19th overall. Marion finished 18-6.

Williamsburg 51, Keokuk 40
Iowa football signee Derek Weisskopf scored 21 points as Williamsburg (16-8) booked its third trip to the state tournament and first since 2015 with a win over Keokuk (17-7) in the opening game at Alliant Energy PowerHouse. These were the third and fourth seeds in their substate.

No. 2 Waverly-Shell Rock 56, Grinnell 54
The Go-Hawks (20-3) held off an upset bid from Grinnell (16-8), which got within two multiple times late after trailing 29-22 at the half. Waverly-Shell Rock is state bound for the 20th time and first since 2018. (Waverly advanced eight times prior to the WSR combination).
Pella 51, No. 8 Winterset 45
Pella (15-9) clinched its 19th state tournament berth, its first since winning the 2021 3A championship, outscoring the Huskies 16-7 in the fourth quarter. Winterset (15-10) led 28-26 at halftime.
Bondurant-Farrar 60, No. 3 Adel ADM 58
Last year’s state champion, Bondurant-Farrar (15-9) is the lone 2023 3A state qualifier returning to Wells Fargo Arena after a big second half. ADM (20-4) had swept the regular-season series (61-54 and 74-63) and led this one 33-28 at halftime. This is the Bluejays’ sixth trip to state.
