What to know: Iowa seeks its third-straight Quad 1 win while Illinois wants to snap back to its winning form after a 90-89 loss at Penn State Wednesday.
The Hawkeyes are after their second win over a ranked opponent in an eight-day period, having beaten Wisconsin in overtime last Saturday. They followed that up with a 78-71 win at Michigan State Tuesday.
Iowa shot over 50 percent from the field in the last two games despite going a combined 10-of-36 from 3-point distance.
Iowa hasn’t won at Illinois since 2018.
The Illini have used the transfer portal successfully. Their three top scorers began their college careers elsewhere. Terrence Shannon, in his second season away from Texas Tech, is a 6-foot-6 guard who averages 22.1 points.
Shannon scored a career-high 35 at Penn State Wednesday, and has four 30-point games this season. He had been suspended by the school last Dec. 28 after he was charged with rape in Kansas, but a U.S. District Court judge found that the university had violated Shannon’s civil rights and he was reinstated to the team after a six-game absence.
Marcus Domask was first-team All-Missouri Valley Conference last season at Southern Illinois. He averages 15.5 points and leads his team in assists.
It’s a team that has out-rebounded its Big Ten foes by 7.9 per game and outscored them by an average of 7.9 points, and has made 40 more 3-pointers in league games than its opposition. Each of its starters is 6-5 or taller. Shannon, Domask and Quincy Guerrier (10.4 points, 7 rebounds per game) are fifth-year players.
