Wednesday’s Class 1A Iowa high school girls’ basketball regional finals
No. 1 North Linn 66, Edgewood-Colesburg 34

No. 2 Newell-Fonda 80, No. 13 Coon Rapids-Bayard 33
Newell-Fonda’s seventh straight regional title came in dominating fashion. The Mustangs (22-2) will try to get back to the top of 1A after winning three straight titles from 2019 to 2021. They were runners-up a year ago. Coon Rapids-Bayard finished 20-4.
No. 6 Martensdale-St. Marys 42, No. 12 Fremont-Mills 34
The Blue Devils (18-6) handed Fremont-Mills (23-1) its first loss to return to the state tournament after a quarterfinal appearance last season.
No. 3 Remsen St. Mary’s 52, George-Little Rock 38
Remsen St. Mary’s reached the semifinals in its first state tournament a year ago and the Hawks (23-0) are headed back after a win over George-Little Rock (16-6).
No. 4 Council Bluffs St. Albert 61, Woodbine 23
St. Albert (22-1) left no doubt in its first regional final victory since 2020. Woodbine’s season ended with a 16-8 record.
No. 5 Algona Garrigan 57, No. 10 Riceville 41
Garrigan (23-2) is back at state despite having to replace two graduated all-staters from its repeat state championship team. The Golden Bears built a 35-16 halftime lead against Riceville (22-2).
No. 7 Calamus-Wheatland 56, Danville 51
Calamus-Wheatland (24-1) is state bound for the first time. Danville (19-5) stayed close, but the Warriors led after all four quarters. (Wheatland alone was a two-time state qualifier in 1958 and 1959).
No. 9 Montezuma 60, No. 8 Anita CAM 47
Montezuma (20-4) clinched its first state berth since appearing four straight years from 2018-21. One of those trips included a 2019 quarterfinal win over CAM, which finished 21-3 this season.
