Gale Williams, 90, of Hale, passed away Monday, July 16, 2018, at his home. His funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 20, at Lahey and Dawson Funeral Home in Wyoming, Iowa. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 19, at the funeral home. Burial will be in North Madison Cemetery in Center Junction with military honors.
Gale Williams was born July 19, 1927, in Iowa, to Leland and Lulu (Ripperton) Williams. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946. He married Peggy Vargason on Nov. 3, 1946. They later divorced. Gale owned and operated the Center Junction Locker and was assistant plant manager at Clinton Engines and a union president. Gale moved to Hale with his longtime companion, card partner and dance partner, Wanda Petersen. He was a faithful and loyal caregiver to Wanda up until she passed from Alzheimers disease in 2014.
Gale was a member of American Legion Post No. 259 of Wyoming. He enjoyed fishing and mowing lawns. He often played cards, attended dances and was in many parades with his show cars.
Those left to cherish Gale's memories are his children, Pam Carradus of Langworthy, Gail Axtell of Loveland, Colo., Steven (Lisa) Williams of Eldridge, Ronald (Deb) Williams of Wyoming and Lynn (Mary) Williams of Center Junction; daughter-in-law, Michael Williams of Center Junction; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren, with two on the way; brother, Larry (Kathleen) Williams of Wyoming; and sisters-in-law, Marilyn Williams, Selma Williams and Gloria Williams.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Randy; grandson, Faron Michael Fritz; great-grandson, Cole Michels; sister, Helen McMillion; five brothers, Lyle, Wayne, Blair, Gerald and Ronnie; and sons-in-law, Philip Carradus and Doug Axtell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to his family in his honor.
