Legislation to codify definitions of ‘sex’ isn’t about biology

The proposed legislation to codify definitions of sex, male and female, isn’t about defining biological differences. It’s gender identity discrimination. Where is the evidence this is an actual problem that needs this legislation? If cisgender females are being attacked in female-only spaces by trans women such as domestic violence shelters, I would think it would be reported to the police, and we would hear about in the media. A trans woman is much more likely to be assaulted in a male space. And the proposal to not discipline school staff and faculty from using the personal pronoun parents have designated with the school district for their children? This is a direct contradiction of the parental right legislation passed in the last session, requiring parents to approve of their child’s personal pronouns and name for school personnel use.
Iowa has problems that effect everyday life: child care availability, staffing and costs, underfunded public education at all levels, rising cancer rates, environmental degradation, and a lack of medical professionals along with other critical worker shortages.
I would like those who support this proposal to stop using limited legislative session time and address issues that concern a majority of Iowans. All Iowa House members are up for election in November. I recommend that Iowans remember who voted for legislation that originated somewhere other than Iowa, while ignoring our real issues.
